The scientific platform we use is the one of self-generating neural networks.

What are the neural networks?

It’s the only unitary model science currently has to study complex systems (Strogaz, Odifreddi).

According to such paradigm “the natural phenomena, the society, the economy and the communication work alike that is following the dynamic principles intrinsic in nature. The first of such principles is the one regulating the synaptic connections among our neurons. However, for the first time, this principle doesn’t remain confined, to the field of neuroscience, but it is extended to other natural phenomena and to the man-made phenomena. Indeed, the component elements of any complex system assemble in the same way as our biological neurons connect. As a consequence, the units of such system behave like artificial neurons. Therefore, a painting by Leonardo turns into a map of artificial neurons just like a dress by Armani or an Apple smartphone.

What are the lab’s activities?

The researchers operate in three directions by using the simulation calculator method:

  1. they reconfigure the subjects of study into maps of artificial neurons;
  2. they elaborate already-known artifacts using the bottom-up procedure in order to make emerge some hidden aspects from such systems;
  3. they generate new artifacts by configuring them into the natural language of self-generating networks. This process is carried out following two criteria: first of all the shape of the system is determined by the matter it is made of, secondly the connective architecture of its visual configuration is determined by the “weights” of the system units.

No difference then between this system and the genesis of a flower or a shell!

What are the benefits of these operations?

The natural language is understood clearly and automatically by all individuals regardless of their differences in terms of nationality,culture and education. However, the use of neural networks offers a further advantage:its language is not alternative to the cultural modalities of current professionals operating in communication, architecture and design. The specific language of the networks is, in fact, called “sub-symbolic” because it operates below the symbolic language. However, it still interacts with the symbolic one creating a complex expressive system. This system works as a double code.

The double code

The discovery of the double code took place right in the Synapticart lab during the analysis of innumerable works by great artists from deliberately different periods and places. This methodological approach aimed at finding out whether such heterogeneous works could hide any possible sub-symbolic common mechanisms. We elaborated masterpieces by Leonardo, Tiziano, Fontana, Magritte, Mirò, Chagall, Beuys, Weston, Brewster, Pesce, Maurer, Mendini, Piano, Gehry, Cattelan, Hirst, Quinn and so on.

At the end of this work it has emerged that these geniuses of art gave birth intuitively to sub-symbolic expressive micro-systems that work at a lower level than the apparent configuration of their works. Thanks to these biopsychic mechanisms their works achieved a resounding success.

The use of the double code, in fact, has three properties: a) it makes the system dynamic b) it is intercepted automatically by everyone c) it exerts over the observer an attractive function that is superior to the one exerted by the simple one-dimensional symbolic configuration of the same work.

Mission

Planning expressive complex systems using the natural language of the neural networks in order to make the artifacts interact automatically with individuals from different cultures following the embodied mind principle and the IMS principle . Thanks to these tools we can identify the profound instances of the users overcoming the evident limits of the big data and the bio-marketing.
